-11-
Irrigated by the Deer Trail Ditch which diverts water from Hubbard Creek,
east of the permit area, and the Fire Mountain Canal, which diverts water
from the North Fork of the Gunnison above the mouth of Hubbard Creek.
The Fire Mountain canal irrigation diversion roughly follows the northern
permit boundary. Deer Trail Ditch water flows by culvert over the Fire
Mountain Canal at a point immediately to the ng9rtt,,h ppf~~the office building.
Undisturbed r~r'li.~t'~Ow~1~y runoff -f-loarrarr diverted around the affected
area. Disturbed runoff from the facilities area is routed through a
sediment pond prior to discharge. Sediment loss from the affected area
will be further reduced by ihterim vegetative stabilization of cut and
fill slopes, topsoil piles, and pond and ditch embankments. Pond
discharge will be sampled to document effluent levels for pH, total
dissolved solids, total suspended solids, iron, manganese, and oil and
grease.
The operation 15 to compliance with the requirements of this section.
VI. Hydrologic Balance: Ground Water - Rules 2.04.5. 2.04.7.
2.05.3(4). 2.05.6(3) and 4.05
The ground water information and protection of the hydrologic balance
sections of the application, contained on pages 2.04-10 and 2.05-24,
respectively, have been reviewed by the Division.
Information in the application indicates that no ground water has been
encountered as a result of site development work on the unconsolidated
colluvium, and this assessment has been verified through field inspection
by Division personnel. No springs or seeps have been identified along
the colluvlal deposit in the vicinity of the permit area. The excavation
associated with loadout pad construction was completed to approximately
20 feet below ground surface and no ground water was encountered.
Information presented by the applicant with respect to a privately owned
water well south of the permit area indicates that water is not
encountered until the river elevation 1s reached.
Since no further surface disturbance is proposed, there is no potential
for significant impacts to ground water quantity in the area. There is a
very slight potential for quality of water in the alluvial aquifer
immediately downs lope from the disturbed area to be degraded as a result
of percolation of lower quality water from the coal sforage piles and
sediment pond. The potential for material damage is considered to be
negligible and is further discussed in. Section VII - Alluvial Valley
Floors of this document.
The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
!.?
