BSSPONSB:
CYCC will install two spoil aquifer monitor wells in the permit /
area. The installations are shown on Map 4a, Mine No. 3 Hydrology ~7~'
and discussed in Sahibit 15, Hydrologic Monitoring Plan.
7. Due to the potential for full saturation of the backfilled mine pits
near the toes of the pits, the applicant should instigate a monitoring
program to visually inspect the areas near the toes of the reclaimed mine
pits for evidence of springs or seeps emanating from the pits. If this
inspection program reveals the existence of springs or seeps, they should
be monitored for flow rate, duration of flow, and water quality
parameters in consultation with the Division. The visual inspection
program should be conducted on a monthly basis, except when snow-pack
cover prohibits it. All results of this inspection and monitoring
program should be included in the applicant's annual hydrologic reports
to the Division.
RSSPONSS:
CYCC proposes to monitor the water level in the spoil aquifers
of the Middle Creek Mine and Mine No. 3 through the use of spoil
monitor wells. The elevation of the water table in the spoils will
be compared to the elevation of the lowest point on the highwall to
determine the liklihood of groundwater seeping from, the pits. The
installation and monitoring of the apoil~ wells should eliminate the
need for a "visual inspection program"~ In the unlikely event that
springs or seeps do develop, the eater emanating from any such
features would be controlled by ditch P-1 a[ the Middle Creek Mine
-13-
