monitored is necessary. Information on well location, well elevation, ownership, use
(domestic, agricultural, etc.) total depth, baseline yield, baseline water level,
measuring point elevations, etc, should be included. Please review this portion of the
water monitoring plan and submit new and revised information.
17a. In the BBA Water Consultants report referenced above (Exhibit K), one well,
permit number 222887, completed in or close to the Ocean Wave coal seam, is
identified as having a potential water level change due to mine-related dewatering,
from 0 to fifteen(15) feet. Impacts to other wells are not quantified due to estimates
that they will not be affected by mining. Please add this well to the proposed
monitoring under Part VI of Exhibit AB.
176. Based on review of Appendices 1, 2 and 5 presented in the BBA report it appears
that two additional wells should be added to the monitoring plan including Well
79354 and Well 3759 due to their completion zone in close proximity to the
underlying Ocean Wave Coal (see Appendix 1 -Cross-Section A-A'). There is also
a house located in T19 S, R70W, Section 11 located south of Brookside very close to
the angle of draw and subsidence monitoring zone. There is no registered well listed
for this location, but it should be verified if a domestic or livestock well exists at this
location.
17c. It appears that culverts may be necessary for the south runoff collection ditch where it
crosses the haul road adjacent to Chandler Creek and at the inlet to the sediment
pond. Please review these two areas and evaluate the need for culverts.
18. NP recently took soil samples from 7 holes on the proposed disturbed area. Analysis was
conducted at the CSU soil lab by horizon. The baseline sampling as presented in Section
2.04.9 of the permit application and in Exhibits F and I is acceptable.
Northfield Response: Baseline soil surveys were provided.
DRMS response: No response required. Response accepted.
19. The last sentence in the first paragraph on page 2.04-Z2 is not clear. I believe it says
that at least the top six inches of topsoil will be salvaged prior to disturbance. Please
clam this sentence.
Northfield Response: Permit text was edited regazding soil salvage depth.
DRMS Response: Response accepted and please see comment under question #22.
20. The soils map, Map 2, is 1 "=600'. !t is difficult to see what the soil types are on this
map. Please provide a larger scale map, minimum 1 " = S00 feet as required by Rule
2.10, that clearly delineates the soil types and sampling locations.
Northfield Response: Soil Survey, Map 2 was revised to a scale of 1" = 500 feet.
