sample. Please include hardness in Table 1 and Table 2. Also, please identify the
tables in the title regarding their applicability to surface or ground water.
The plan proposes to monitor eight private wells in and around the mine permit area
assuming access is granted by the well owners. Please determine access and add the
specific wells to Exhibit AB under heading VI.
34a. Since the wells included in the Well Monitoring Plan of the application are domestic
or livestock wells, I recommend that the sampling parameters be changed from iron
and manganese only to the parameters listed in Tables 1 through 4 of the Basic
Standards for Ground Water Regulation No. 41. This should be done for at least
the initial baseline collection period. The tables can be found at the link
http://www.cdphe.state.co,us/regu/ations/wgccregs/100241 basicstandardsforgroundwat
erpdf
35. Structures and renewable resources are shown on Map1 and Map 7 and described on page
2.05.6-11.
• Ground water wells are considered structures. Numerous registered wells occur within the
permit area. Please include these on Map 7 and include them (or reference them if in
another part of the permit application) in the brief description of structures. (see also
related question #13)
• The affected area (the area to be subsided assuming a 25 degree angle of draw) is shown as
a red dashed line on Map 7. In numerous locations along the proposed permit boundary,
the affected area is shown outside of the permit area. The Division cannot approve
potential subsidence impacts outside of the proposed permit area. Please review mine
plans and modify as necessary.
• Map 1 appears to show existing buildings and/or residences. Please add residences to Map
7 (which shows the extent of the affected area) given the apparent close proximity of mining
to a residence(s).
Northfield Response: Map 1 and Map 7 were modified.
DRMS response: Response accepted.
36. For each structure the Division suggests reviewing the subsidence prediction, subsidence
control plan, and the subsidence monitoring proposed. In particular, it is important that
the permit text and materials clearly indicate far each structure the control measures that
will be taken, how monitoring will determine the necessity of any particular control
measure or repair, what form of monitoring will be conducted (visual, monument surveys,
other, etc.), when the monitoring will commence, when the monitoring will end, and how
frequent the monitoring will be conducted for each structure. Since the mine plan consists
of named panels and mains, ident~ing the commencement and cessation of monitoring
using the mine plan as proposed seems appropriate. A table format with supporting text is
