Burgmaier
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St., Roan 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Ms. Burtgaaier:
The Colorado Natural Heritage Progl:am (Ct~II-IP) is in receipt of your recent request
for information regarding the Yoast Mine, permit number C-94-082. In response,
C[~II3P has searched it's Biological and Conservation Datasystem for occurrences of
natural heritage resources (occurrences of significant natural cYxmiunities, and
rare, threatened or endangered plants or animals) doclmiented from T6N R87W
sections 28-29 and 32, and from T5N R87W sections 5, 8, 16-20, and 29-30.
Accoml;~ to the information currently in our files, there are four occurrences
of Tvmoanuchus phasianellus columbianus (Columbian sharp-tailed grouse) near the
area of interest. Of these, one occurrence is in the immediate vicinity and tvo
are in the near vicinity. The fourth occurrence is a general record, and the
locational information is not of sufficient precision to allay us to determine
whether or not the occurrence falls within the project area. 1Yle dates of last
observation for these rearrds are not readily available.
This sub-species is ranked very rare globally and in Colorado, and is lIIlder
review for federal listing. Because Columbian sharp-tailed grouse is a Category
2 species being considered for federal protection under the Etldangered Species
Act, you may wish to contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for additional
information.
While the information contained herein represents a thorough search of C[~II-IP's
Biological and Conservation Datasystem, any absence of data does not necessarily
mean that other natural heritage resources do 110(: occur ir. or adjacent to the
project area, but rather that our files do not currently contain information to
doaurezlt their presence. Also, although every attempt is made to provide the
frost current and precise information possible, please be aware that some of our
sources provide a higher level of accuracy than others, and sane interpretation
may be required. CNHP's datasystem is constantly updated and revised. Please
contact CNHP for an update on this natural heritage information if a significant
annunt of time passes before it is utilized.
Sincerely,
Daryl Burkhard
~~~C
Information Manager
0
Na~re "
Conservanry®
