Dept of Natural :iescurces
October 24, 1983
Thank you for your attendance and input at the October 17, 1983, meeting
concerning the Gary pipeline.
The Bureau of Land Management requests that you make a review of the pipe-
line project as it relates to the Dorchester coal leases, This review
should include an analysis of possible conflicts that could arise from
the pipeline crossing the coal leases, what measures could be taken to
mitigate such conflicts, and what recommendation you would make concerning
the issuance of a right-of-way.
In order to make such an analysis you will need to work with Gary and
Dorchester to obtain a mine plan, subsidence predictions, engineering
standards, monitoring plan, and spill plan. Please feel free to work
independently with the two companies while keeping the BLM informed.
Enclosed is a copy of the Final Environmental Assessment. If you have
any questions or need additional information, contact Julia Dougan in
the Grand Junction Resource Area (.FTS 323-0274 or 243-6552),
Sincerely,
v
Larry J, Porter
Assistant Area Manager
cc: Chuck Carpenter, Gary Energy Corp,
Dean Massey, Dorchester Coal Co.
