-, .-.
Mr. Clem Parkin -3- November 21, 1985
4. Portal #2
The proposed dump adjacent to Portal #2 is located in somewhat flatter
terrain, and is thus even less likely to exhibit slope movement than the pile
at Portal #'1. The amount of materials to be dumped is 2000 cubic yards, also
somewhat less than at Portal #1. Again, the parameters given above suggest
that stability of the pile will not be a problem. It is again recommended
that the area be stripped of topsoil, and where possible surface water be
directed away from the face of the pile. Progressive reclamation is also
recommended.
5. Monitoring
It is recommended that monitoring be limited to occasional visual observation
of the crest and toe of the piles during their construction. If excessive
movements occur, the effects of these can be immediately mitigated by cleanup
or modification of the dumping schedule. Normal care should be taken in
dumping the materials, as it is possible that some movements of the structure
may occur, even in a material with the above favorable parameters.
6. Summary
In summary, it appears that the piles proposed will be statile, as a result of
the relatively strong foundation materials, the considerable depth to the
water table in the proposed dump area, and the expected good strength and
drainage of the piles themselves. If desired, the piles could be reclaimed in
place, and remain stable indefinitely.
I trust that this letter provides the additional information that you require.
Should there be any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Respectfully submitted,
TERRA THERMA INC

Adrian Brown, P.E., Vice President
22215
Terra Thermo Inc
