The North Thompson Creek Mines are located in Pitkin County along the North Thompson Creek, approximately 2.7 miles west of the confluence between North Thompson and Middle Creeks. The mine is accessed by traveling 7.6 miles from Colorado Highway 82 along County Road 108. The permit area is defined as: S}NE; Section 31 and the NWitW}NE# Section 35, Township 8 South, Range 89 West, 6th P. M. The associated loadout facility is located on the Crystal River Ranch and the Diamond "S" Ranch in Garfield County approximately 1.6 miles northwest of the intersection of Colorado Highway 82 and Colorado Highway 133 near Carbondale, Colorado. The loadout facility is bordered to the northeast by Colorado Highway 82 and to the southwest by the Roaring Fork River. A conveyor extends from the facility to the southwest, crosses the Roaring Fork River and terminates on a platform located along the Kaiser - Sievers Ditch. A haul road continues from the platform southward for approximately 2.4 miles, intersecting County Road 108 near the Crystal River Ranch House. The term of the permit will be five (5) years. Mining operations are expected to continue to the year 2000 at which time the land will be returned to agricultural use at the loadout and revert to rangeland at the mine site.
