~.~ ~,. <br />. <br />• ~ <br />Introduction <br />An intensive pedestrian survey was undertaken from June Z7-30, 1983, <br />by Gibbs & Hill, Inc. on behalf of Storm King Mines. The area <br />surveyed is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and was <br />inventoried for cultural resources as necessitated by federal land <br />use and land management policies. <br />Two other surveys have been completed in the area: one for additional <br />acreage desired to be used by Storm }:ink Mines, and the other pre oared <br />at the request of the BLM. Both surveys were completed by Nicker.s <br />and Associates {Montrose, Colorado), and were completed in 1983 and <br />1980 respectively. Information on past and present environment, <br />culture history, and previous work in the area was compiled and <br />presented in detail in the Nickens (1980) report, and for that reason, <br />will not be duplicated here. <br />escription of Yroiect Area <br />The area surveyed by Gibbs & Hill in June 1983 is outlined on the <br />attached map. It includes most of the northern half of section 4 <br />CT 6S, R 90 W), and a small northeastern portion of section 5. The <br />area was identified in the field by Storm King Mines personnel as the <br />area to be potentially impacted by Storm King's activities. <br />Methodolo <br />Fieldwork for this survey was performed by Dr. Kathleen Cushman, and <br />Mr. Peter Gleichman, with assistance on historical structures from <br />Mr. Jeff Pecka. The area was initially delineated in terms of obvious <br />topoPraphic features, and was surveyed completely wherever practically <br />
