-6-
SUMMARY OF THE REVIEW PROCESS
The proposed permit area of the Carbon Junction Mine is approximately 2
1/2 miles southeast of Durango, Colorado (Figure 1>. There is no current
mining occurring at this location.
The initial permit application was received by the Mined Land Reclamation
Division on February 23, 1982. Following the receipt of additional
information, the Division notified the applicant, on June 18, 1982, that
the revised application was deemed complete for the purposes of filing on
that date. On August 16, 1982, the Division sent the applicant a
Preliminary Adequacy Review letter, which found the permit application
deficient in several areas.
The applicant resubmitted a revised permit application, which was
received by the Division on December 15, 1982. A Preliminary Adequacy
Review of this application was issued on January 17, 1983. Following the
receipt of this review, the applicant has responded to the Division's
concerns and additional information has been submitted for review. The
Division, in consultation with the applicant, has resolved the major
areas of concern and, as a result, the review process has been adequately
completed. Therefore, the Division proposes to approve Pueblo Coal's
permit application, with stipulations.
