Determination of Revegetation Success
Determination of revegetation success will be based on the comparison of
reclaimed areas with data from study areas. Study area selection for this
comparison will be based on slope position, aspect, soils and vegetation
similarity. Vegetation similarity will be based on visually dominant species
which is also the primary criterion for vegetation type mapping.
An acceptable diversity standard will be developed upon completion of veg-
etation sampling. This standard will be based on species composition and
life form importance for herbaceous vegetation and species composition as
determined from relative density for shrubs. This Division's proposed
policy for evaluating species diversity will be followed during standard
development.
Revegetation success will be addressed through application of the sampling
methodologies outlined. Resultant data will be compared for reclaimed and
study areas as shown in the following table.
PARAMETER
- Herbaceous Cover in a
Woody Community
- Herbaceous Production
in a Woody Community
- Species Diversity
- Woody Plant Density
- Woody Plant Cbver/
Height
SUCCESS CRITERIA REGULATION REFERENCE
90% of reference 4.15.8 (3) (b)
area value at 80°~
confidence
90% of reference 4.15.8 (4) (b)
area value at 80°~
confidence
To be developed 4.15.8 (5)
fallowing completion
of vegetation sampling
To be developed 4.15.8 (7)
fol,l,owing completion
of vegetation sampling
Positive increase 4.15.8 (8)
in revegetated
area mean at 80%
confidence
