The weather will
determine the extent of winter operation.
The topsoil will be stripped on the bench
and stockpiled on the north side. After
completion of the operation, the area
will be graded, topsoil respread, and
revegetated according to the recommenda-
tions of the SCS.
This area lies within the boundaries of a
deer and elk winter range. There are
also small mammals and game birds.
A letter from the Division of Wildlife states
that due to the small scope of this opera-
tion, the impact on wildlife will be minimal.
The soil is a dark grayish sandy loam about
7 inches thick with slow permeability.
The vegetation consists mainly of oakbrush,
with some snowberry, mountain mahogany, and
serviceberry. Some grasses are also present.
The north fork of the Gunnison River flows
2 miles to the south. Hubbard Creek flows
in the gully just west of the mine, thence
into the river. No water impoundments are
planned.
It is recommended that this additional
acreage amendment to the original permit
be approved.
