Box 226
Delta, Colorado 81416
RE: Red Canyon Tr`1 Mine
Our file ~,~77-232
Dear PIr. Resclilce:
i7ith conceptual approval by the *iined Land Reclamation Board on your
sediment control for the Red Canyon no. 1 nine, yai nay start same phases
of the sediment caitrol plan. As we discussed on Parch 27, 19E0, you
can start fLinr, ditches. Before diversion ditches are constructed,
hceaever, a diagram is needed showing that soil excavated fres ditches
will be riled as a bem~ alon? the ditch with a space bet~.~en hers and
ditch large enough to rrevent undercutting of the berm by the diversion
f1os~. Also, a state~x~nt is needed that Ajversion ditches passing throws
any coal slack or other contaminated soil will be lined or sanetsow
protected from oontaednants.
Upon these sutnussiorss, diversion ditct+.es can be constructed except for
tsao problem areas:
1. The stretch of ditch along the wESt haul road where it followsa
the road.
2. Location 28 on the drainage plan map where the diversion ditrls
crosses a collection ditch. Also, if this ditch is going to be
affected by imparting fill to this area, this ditch will have
to wait until plans are approved for the fill anc' relocation of
the ditch.
As you realize, more information is needed far the sedia:erst pond dam and
collection ditches before these can be constructed. Besides the problen
of excess material at the dam site, a description of the stockpiling of
topsoil is needed. Astable area not subject to severe wind and water
erosion, not contaminated by coal ar other refuse should be ctvoaen.
