U
~~
October 18, 2006
Colorado Historical Society
Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation
1300 Broadway
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Northfield Coal Mine
Dear Mr. Wolff,
~~V~~ it ~~
OCT '~ 0 `L006
pivision °t and Safety n,
Mining
Thank you for your phone call today regarding the proposed Northfield Coal Mine.
Included with this correspondence are the maps we discussed depicting the proposed
permit azea and delineated surface facility.
Northfield Partners LLC proposes underground mining of the Ocean Wave coal seam
ranging in depth from approximately 300 feet on the east side of the project to 800 feet
deep on'the west'side of the project. The proposed surface facility will enclose a total
area of approximately 25 acres with less than 25% developed as structures. Surface
impact for the remainder of the permit azea is possible as subsidence impact
Subsidence impacts were calculated based on British National Coal Board prediction too]
which considers depth of overburden, width of mined wall and height of target coal seam.
Average maximum subsidence was calculated at approximately 4 feet. Based on historic
subsidence documentation at existing coal mines in the area, operating shallower mines,
maximum subsidence.was 55% of calculated potential, which leads to a realistic potential
for worse case subsidence at 2 feet.
If you have any further questions, please contact me directly at 719-275-8951.
Respectfully provided,
~ ~
Angela,Bellantorii , , ,:~: ,
Cci'Kenf Gorham, DRMS
. ~, , . of 1 ~ ~ .
'L,' ~ a,.
. . .. . ... -~ .-] .v L.
~~~~riir~nn~n~~~i~ /~,\II~~~rrn~Lii~~/~S Il~c„
410 Macon Ave. Canon City, CO 81212
www.envalternatives.com • e-mail: eaiQbresnan.net
Phone: 719-275-8951 • Cell: 719-429-8950
C/~-,\II
