Reflective or silver-colored <br />tipples, transmission lines, and buildings introduce <br />foreign colors into the landscape, as does brightly paint- <br />ed equipment. <br />Reclamation efforts that utilize other than native species <br />would create textural differences from the adjacent types. <br />Spoils, road cuts, and rights-of-way that are not success- <br />fully revegetated would also appear as visual intrusions. <br />Road and blasting dust, coal dust, and exhaust emissions <br />create short-lived landscapes foreign to the native sur- <br />roundings. Other ephemeral landscapes that occur as minus <br />deviations would result from increased siltation in <br />streams. <br />The foregoing discussion of minus deviations accruing to <br />the proposed action considers the existing landscape <br />character. It must be noted that existing coal mining <br />operations have already produced a variety of existing <br />minus deviations prior to those adverse impacts antici- <br />pated here. <br />Overall aesthetic experience at Energy Mine areas would <br />also be adversely impacted. Notwithstanding the subjec- <br />tive nature of mood-atmosphere values, the proposed action <br />might adversely impact the area's inherent capability to <br />kindle feelings of isolation, solitude, or a certain <br />respect for nature.
