will be included in the mining plan which is developed and ap-
proved.
A. Unmitigated Impacts
1. Topography
Topography and landforms of the mined areas would be
modified slightly due to the removal of natural irregu-
larities including small tributary stream valleys and
replacement with a man-made surface and drainage where
necessary. Although the mine sites would be returned
to their approximate original contours, the general
surface would be expected to stand slightly higher
because of the increase in overburden bulk resulting
from breaking up the original beds of rock and moving
them. The average raising of the surface would be an
estimated 6 feet if the expansion of the spoils is
20 percent.
On coal lease application C-22676, an intermittent
tributary of Fish Creek draining the mined area would
be removed and replaced. OSM regulations would re-
quire that this channel be replaced to essentially
pre-mining geometry and hydrology.
2. Paleontology
Adverse impacts to fossils would occur if they are
destroyed in the coal mining operation. Given the over-
119
