PANORAMA RESOURCE SERVICES, INC.
1675 Larimer St., Ste. 750
Denver, Colorado 80202
August 8, 1984
Susan Mowry
Mined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Susan:
iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiu
RECEIVED
AU G 0 9 1984
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
Colo. Dept of Natural Resources
This letter is to notify you that Sundance Coal Company has
temporarily ceased operations at the Animas/Helen mine
complex. Operations were temporarily suspended on July 9,
1984 and it is apparent that the suspension will continue
beyond the 30 day period.
The following information is supplied in compliance with
Rule 4.30.1 as of August 9, 1984:
Surface Disturbed Area = 29.2 acres
Horizontal Area Affected by Underground Mining = 19.8
acres
Horizontal Length from portals:
Animas Mine - 3100 feet
Helen Mine - 600 feet
Vertical Extent of Subsurface Strata Affected = 750
feet
No reclamation of the above listed disturbed area has been
or will be conducted through the suspension period.
During the temporary cessation, ongoing monitoring of water
wells, permanent diversion, sediment pond discharge, mine
weather records, sediment pond inspections, mine water
monitoring and general site inspections will be conducted.
All reports required by the permit will continue to be
submitted.
The cessation of the operation has been caused by a slowdown
in coal sales. It is not known at this time when the
situation will improve sufficiently to re-open the mine. I
will keep you informed of any developments.
Sincerely,
kGu!'~L
Greg Lewicki
