Shelton <br />Director <br />August 12, 1981 <br />TO: Dan Ma the <br />FROM: Jim Pendle <br />SUBJECT: Preliminar for Red Canyon Mines <br />No. 1 and <br />Ute Engineering has prepared and submitted, in preliminary form; <br />(1) Redrafted drawings reflecting an angle of draw of 20.5 degrees instead of <br />their original assumption of 15 degrees. <br />(2) Pillar strength calculations utilizing two different methods, Obert and <br />Duvall and Wilson, which are both acceptable methods showing adequate safety <br />factoring at the depths of mining projected at the Red Canyon mine. <br />(3) Calculations demonstrating the interaction of mine workings in the the <br />E seam and D seam are negligable, due to the interburden distance involved. <br />Ute Engineering also commits to complete the following tasks: <br />(1) To produce separate mine plan maps for both the D seam and the E seam <br />workings. <br />(2) To produce a subsidence monitoring map" which will show the monuments and <br />the safe areas beneath structures superimposed upon the mine plan map. <br />(3) To reinstall the subsidence monitoring monuments with a casing tube to <br />prevent freeze/thaw problems. <br />(4) To complete the photographic record of potentially effected structures. <br />The materials submitted by Ute Engineering for the Red Canyon mine are acceptable. <br />Assuming that the additional tasks are acceptably accomplished, the applicant <br />should satisfy subsidence requirements stated in the preliminary adequacy <br />review, dated May 8, 1981. <br />ws <br />ton <br />y esponse o Subsidence Concerns <br />cc: Fred Banta <br />
