SH ELTON, Director
May 11, 1987
Mr. Joe Carpio
La Plata Coal Corporation
3701 County Road 120
Hesperus, Colorado 81326
Re: La Plata No. 1 Mine - Second Adequacy Letter; - File No. C-87-072
Dear Mr. Carpio:
On March 13, 1987 we forwarded to you our Preliminary Adequacy Review (PAR)
letter addressing outstanding concerns. Your response, received on April 9,
1987, entailed replacing the majority of the existing permit application
document with a new document. Based on our review of your new submittal, we
have identified a number of concerns that have not been adequately addressed
and some new concerns. There are several areas of concern that must be
resolved prior to the Division being able to issue a decision. Adequate
responses to all of the concerns will allow the Division to propose a decision
unencumbered by a number of stipulations or restrictions to your mine plan.
The enclosed adequacy letter is broken into two portions. The first portion
addresses those concerns which must be resolved prior to any decision being
made. The second portion addresses concerns remaining from the first adequacy
letter which remain outstanding, and some new concerns.
The Division must issue a proposed decision by June 1, 1987. Your prompt
response to the concerns will assist the Division in rendering a decision
prior to this date.
you have a y uestions, please contact me.
ince y,
Peter V.
