P.01
iil Illlllilllllllll
999
The DMG's letter dated February 18, 1997 requested additional information to wmplete its
estimate of the reclamation cost for the Bowie No. 2 Mme. Following is the requested
information:
1. Construction of the haul road will require the excavation of approrimately 215,856 cubic
yards. We estimate 25% (53,964 c.yJ ofthis material will be utilized to reclaim and
narrow the road.
2. Enclosed is an Estimating Form (Task 1) which presents the revised quamtitie9 which will
be required to back5ll the faa7ities area, conveyor wrridor and track loadout.
The Cat handbook projects an S25C compactor can wmpact 1283 whit yards per hour
utilizing 3 machine passes, with an 8 inch lift thickness traveling at an average speed of 4
mph. I believe this would achieve the requited coanpaction regwremeat which is 85% of
modified proctor. You need to balance this production with your material handling
production. I suspect that your materiel handling equipmetrt Production wtll be less than
1283 cubic yards per hour so only one compactor wall be required. Don't forget a water
truck since We material wmpaction specdication requires at or above optimum moisture.
4. Field testing would be performed by a full time technician. Enclosed is a quotation from
WESTEC which ptrnides s technician, transpottabon, lab and lab equipmem (including
nuclear gauge). The cost is 563.00 per hour. You shouts be able to apply this hourly cost
to the number of hours the material handling Beet works. I do not know if proctor tests
are included in this hourly cost. Enclosed is a copy of a WF.STEC laboratory fee
schedule. A modified proctor, method C, wets 5145.00. Proctor tests are performed if
material characteristics change during a project. I would aswme no more them Sve
proctor testa would be required.
