= ~ ~ ..
•• ,
permeable sandy loam scils. The effects of the pond water quality are
not quantifiable at the present time as the dischazge on the pond remains
empty most of the year and there Y,as been no discharge from the pond.
The surface water and sediment control system is in compliance and
appears to be soundly engineered.
Vegetation: The area surrounding the mine contains a shrub density of
35000 plants per acre. These shrubs are used as a food source by
wildlife and livestock.
Social-economic:
At the present production rate it is assumed that 150-20 ter. trucks would
be needed annually to transport the mines production to the city
i
markets. The translates to one trip about every 2-4 days.
There are six persons presently employed at the mine.
Impacts:
The Ohio Creek #2 mine has been operating since 1922. The operator does
not plan to increase the area of disturbance but does plan to increase
production from 3000 to 10000 tons per year and increase employment from
6 to 10 miners and truckers. As the mine is an existing operation
approval of this permit will not increase the impacts to the
environment. Because the mine now has to cor:form to the requirements of
SA]CFA and the Colorado State Program,. the impacts to the environment will
be reduced due to the protection afforded the water, air and soil•
