The coal bearing sequence of
the Willims Fork Formation dips approximately 12
n

degrees to the southwest, There is one northwest
trending fault in sec. 2, T. 5 N., R, 86 w (just north
of application boundary), There is no data available
on the exact amount of displacement on this fault, or
the existence of other faults or any dominant joint
trends in the area.
3. Geomornholoav
Landscape character in and near the three coal lease
applications results mostly from moderate folding
followed by differential erosion of interbedded hard
and soft stratigraphic layers of varying thicknesses.
4, Paleontolo¢v
The coal-bearing Iles and Nilliams Fork Formations,
overlain in places by the Lewis Shale, both contain
fossil leaves, ammonites, and ~oceramus clams (within
interbedded shales). No specific surface exposures of
fossils have been reported on the lease area, however,
no paleontology field survey has been completed for the
proposed action area.
5.
