-s-
in increments no larger than 12 inches.
The additional sampling of the disturbed soils at the mine site is needed to
ascertain the revegetation potential of this mate-ial and the additional sampling
at the refuse pile is needed to determine appropriate stripping depths.
2. A soils map of the mine area should be included. This should show the sur-
rounding soil types and the locations of the soil samples taken on the disturbed
and undisturbed areas. A description of the surrounding undisturbed soils
must also be included.
3. A narrative or table must be provided which addresses the suitability of
the disturbed "soils" at the mine site based on the physical and chemical
characteristics.
loadout Soils
1. The soil mapping unit 146 D ~•ias disturbed by the haul road. Therefore, a
description of this soil type must be included. Also, the notation that, this
soil was not disturbed by the operation, must be changed on the map and table
3.8.2-1.
2. The applicant maps 55C and 55D seperatly from 55E, provide a discussion of
the differences between these soils.
3. No analyses of mapping unit XIIC are given in the application even though it
appears that this unit ~•~as sampled. These must be submitted.
4. If there will be any further disturbance at the loadout, the soils map must
show stripping depths and any future proposed stripping depths for each soil type.
5. A discussion of the present and potential productivity of each soil type
must be given.
2.04.10 Vegetation Baseline Information
1. The vegetation moo for the mine area does not meet the requirements for maps
in 2.10(1). P1aps shall legibly detail at the information set forth on topographic
maps of the U.S. Geologic Survey (2.10(1). The vegetation map must include
sufficient adjacent area to allow evaluation of vegetation as important habitat.
The vegetation map for the mine site must,be redrafted 2.04.10(3).
2. Snowmass needs to provide vegetative sample locations on their vegetation map.
The vegetation map for the loadout needs to be updated to reflect the actual
position of roadways relative to vegetation types.
3. How many acres of mountain shrubland-moist phase are present in the permit
area? Does the mountain shrubland-moist phase constitute a habitat of unusually
high value for any of the wildlife species present on the site?
4. The moist phase of the mountain shrubland needs to be qualitatively
described in terms of species composition, cover, productivity, and woody
plant density.
