authority for approval within 90 days of permit issuance,
and the studies must be performed at the first available
opportunity.
Due to low precipitation and short growing season, revegetation
will be difficult but acheivable. Research near the permit area
at the Marr Strip Mine is being conducted by the Bureau of Land
Management (BLM). Site specific data relating to the effective-
ness of revegetation should be available from this studyin 1982.
The applicant should take advantage of the data resulting from
this research and incorporate it into their reclamation plan,
snaking any applicable modifications with the approval of the reg-
ulatory authority.
The applicant will seed the reclaimed areas with one seed
mixture (page 63, Vol. 1 of the permit application). Microhabi-
tat differences will provide diversity within the revegetated
area, but community boundaries will not be similar to premining
conditions. Natural re-invasion from adjacent areas will help
establish communities comparable to premining communities. The
new communities should be able to support the proposed postimin-
ing land uses.
-96-
