II B. DESCRIPTION OF THE APPLICANT'S PROPOSAL
At present coal is being extracted by the applicant from the
eastern limb of the McCallum anticline near its southern nose.
The proposed permit will extend present operations to include the
area around the southern nose of the anticline and an area ex-
tending northward for 1/4 mile along the less steeply-dipping
western limb. The coal in the currently-operated mine varies in
dip from 35° SE to 24° SE; the dip of the coal in the proposed
permit area varies from 4.5° SW in the vicinity of the nose to
approximately 23° SW near the northern permit boundary.
Mining will be completed in Pit 1 in late 1981 and opera-
tions will then begin in Pit 2. (Figure 2A, and Addendum II of
the permit application). Mining operations will be completed
within the present permit area by 1985. Backfilling and grading
of Pit 1 will be completed by 1985 and backfilling and grading of
Pit 2 will be completed by 1986. Final reclamation operations
for Pit 1 are projected to be completed in 1985 for the Pit 1
areas and Pit 1 overburden stockpile. Approximately 1,400,000
cubic yards of overburden material from Pit 1 has been stockpiled
on the eastern side of the pit. Figure 2 and Exhibit 2 of Adden-
dum II, of the permit application show the pit and stockpile as
they existed in May, 1978 and August, 1979. Based on Exhibit 2
and Addendum II of the permit application, the stockpile has
remained relatively unchanged since May, 1978. The overburden
excavated to advance Pit 1 has been used to backfill this pit
behind coal removal operations.
Reclamation operations for Pit 2, the Pit 2 stockpile and
mine facility areas are projected to be completed in 1986. Based
on these dates, final bond release for the permit area will occur
in 1996 (Tables 1 and 2 and Figure 2 of Addendum II, and Table 1
on page 51, of the permit application).
-32-
