Northfield Partners, LLC
Northfield Exploration Project
BASELINE HYDROLOGY MONITORING PLAN
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Northfield Partners, LLC (Northfield) submitted a Baseline Hydrology Monitoring Plan (Plan),
dated May 12, 2005, to the DMG on May 19, 2005. The Plan was reviewed with the DMG and
discussed in a meeting on the submittal date. During the meeting, the DMG commented on
several items that were not addressed in the Plan, and requested Northfield to provide responses
to their comments and concerns prior to reviewing the complete proposed baseline hydrology
monitoring plan.
The proposed hydrologic monitoring schedules and data collection methods stated in the original
Plan aze not changed by this submittal. In addition, no changes aze proposed for the azea (leased
azea) in which Northfield is conducting coal exploration and environmental monitoring. The
leased azea situates in portions of Sections 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 23, and 24, T19S, R70W, 6~' PM.
Lease boundaries and proposed water monitoring locations are shown on the Baseline Hydrology
Monitoring Map included with the Plan.
In order to compile the requested supplemental information, Northfield performed additional
field reconnaissance within and adjacent to the leased azea, and consulted several landowners
adjoining the leased azea. Field reconnaissance trips where conducted into the northwestern and
western portions of the leased and adjacent azeas on May 27, 2005, and June 3, 2005.
Additionally, field observations and sampling of water seeping from an abandoned mine opening
in the southeast quarter of Section 12 were conducted on June 23, 2005.
Northfield hereby submits the following supplemental information to the Plan in an endeavor to
further chazacterize the pre-mining hydrological conditions. The first section of information is
presented as responses to specific DMG comments made at the May meeting, in a comment-
response format. The final section provides additional relevant hydrologic information gathered
by Northfield.
Two small drainages bisect the northwest corner of the leased area, and are not
discussed in the Plan. Are these two drainages to be included or excluded in the baseline
monitoring program?
Response:
The two referenced drainages cross the northwest portion of the leased area. Each drainage flows
to the north, into a portion of the city of Canon City, where they enter the Arkansas River. Both
drainages have their headwaters west of the lease area. Names of the creeks are known on a local
basis only, as follows: "Spring Creek" situated in SW 1/4 of Section 11, and "Plum Creek"
situated in SE1/4 of Section 10. Descriptions of the stream drainage chazacteristics based on field
observations follow:
-1- 06/30/05
