David Berry -2- April 11, 1995
Ephemeral Drainages
The Division recommended that the ephemeral drainages be monitored
monthly. Upstream and downstream monitoring points should be
established if practical. Samples will be analyzed for field
parameters and full suite.
Deer Trail Ditch
The Division recommended that two monitoring points, one upstream
and one downstream, be established for the Deer Trail Ditch. The
ditch will be monitored monthly for field parameters and three
times during the irrigation season for full suite.
Alluvial We].ls
The Division recommended that three alluvial wells be drilled at
the location of the proposed truck loadout near old State Highway
133.
It was noted during the meeting that only one well was completed in
the Rollins Sandstone. One or two additional wells may need to be
drilled in order to characterize the aquifer below the lowest coal
seam to be mined if the aquifer could potentially be impacted by
mining.
The Division approved the attached list of parameters to be used
for the full suite analyses.
Additional information exchanged during the meeting is summarized
as follows:
^ Springs and stockponds are considered to be renewable
resources.
^ The permit application will need to evaluate how mining will
impact grazing and wildlife.
^ An Order 1 soil survey will be required on all areas to be
disturbed by the surface facilities. The published SCS soil
survey can be used for all other areas.
^ The Division is concerned about the stability of the proposed
portal bench, coal stockpile bench and access road.
Geotechnical (stability) analyses of the proposed facilities
will probably be required.
^ If we propose to mine under Terror Creek, hydrologic
monitoring data will need to be collected. The Division
recommended that we utilize information collected by the Bowie
No. 1 Mine if the data is applicable.
