III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
STATE OF CU~Ulv~O
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Dlrsetor
DATE: July 7, 1989
T0: Harry Ranney
FROM: Bill Crick ~'
RE: Eastside Mine (C-84-063), Adequacy of Permit Renewal Application
I have reviewed the topics Ground Water Information (2.04.7(1)) and Protection
of the Hydrologic Balance (2.05.6(3)) for adequacy.
The current ground water monitoring program at Eastside, modified by TR03 is
as follows:
1) Geotech Well - monthly field parameters, quarterly full suite.
2) Seepage below dam - quarterly field parameters
3) Mine water discharge - quarterly field parameters, annual full suite.
The Geotech well, completed in the Harvey Gap alluvium, has been checked
monthly and has been dry since at least the end of 1985. The seep below the
Grass Valley dam flows .005 cfs, and water quality has been consistent through
the period of record. The mine water discharge is necessitated by inflows
which average just under 2 gpm, and field parameter measurements indicate no
water quality problems.
Following examination of the permit application and the 1986, 1987, and 1988
Annual Hydrologic Reports, the operation appears to be in compliance with
these sections of the regulations.
cc: Jim Stevens
/1 ac
7853E
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
