III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Govei
DEPARTMENT OFNATURALRESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: March 14, 1989
T0: Jim Stevens
FROM: Harry Ranney ~/
RE: Adequac.v Review, Rimrock
I performed a review of the Rimrock Coal Mine's permit and the following is a
list of the concerns that I have pertaining to the bonding, backfillinq and
grading, and topsoil redistribution:
1. For accurate reclamation costing the division needs an accuratate
scaled map showing the locations of the diversion ditches and
sediment pond as well as cross sections of the sediment pond.
2. The reclamation plan calls for 14,870 cubic yards of topsoil to
reclaim the 28.36 acres at a depth of 6", This represents only 65~
of the volume needed. Another 8,000 cv. is required for a uniform
depth of 6" for the entire disturbed area.
3. Reveqation costs figured in the permit are significantly less than my
estimates. The permit has a cost of $321 per acre as apposed to the
divisions calculations of $550 per acre.
These items need to be resolved prior to accepting a total
reclamation cost bond figure.
/1 ac
4141E
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
