Pendleton:
~~~~~~`~ i~~
,. ~~~ 1 -
i -.
~:... -.
Reference is made to our meeting this morning regarding the
"subsidence sections" of Storm King blines, Inc. permit application.
It was agreed that Storm King will have provided the Division,
prior to the completion of the rock tunnels (now estimated by
August-September, 1985), with a revised and acceptable monitoring
program to measure subsidence caused by our proposed coal mining
activities.
As I informed you, we have just entered into preliminary discussions
for a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Part
of this cooperation will cover rock mechanics and subsidence. I
have been informed by Mr. Les Beckett of the USBoM Denver Research
Center that a program sponsored by the BOM has been included in
their 1985 budget. I have further been informed by a letter from
Mr. Horton, Director of USBOM, (copy attached) that they desire to
cooperate with Storm King.
The outcome of these negotiations cannot be assessed at this time.
Storm King Mines, Inc. hereby commits itself to furnish your office
within 6 months - with or without cooperation by the USBoM - with a
new acceptable monitoring program.
Your cooperation with our endeavor to bring the project to fruition
is greatly appreciated.
Yours very truly,
E.
