We visited the site to become better acquainted with
the location and possible adapted species. The elevation is between
7,200 and 7,800 feet, with an average annual precipitation of 16 inches.
The site we looked at would give both northwest and southeast exposure
and a flat area of between 3 and 5 acres for testing plants. This area
would be topsoiled. The site is located in Sections 30 and 31, Township
5 North, Range 88 West.
Plant species in the area include bluegrass, western wheatgrass, blue-
bunch wheatgrass, Columbian needlegrass, serviceberry, sagebrush, oakbrush,
basin wildrye, needleandthread and rabbitbrush. Also, slender wheatgrass
and mountain brome would be good species to evaluate.
We discussed a revegetation scheme of patches of woody plants inter seeded
into open areas of grasses and fortis. We would try to utilize micro
climatic sites (slope and exposure) for planting specific species.
FOLLOW-UP NEEUS
Larry Jackson will send us copies of the map and location that we discussed,
with sane rough contour lines of finished grade. Working with the Environ-
mental Plant Center, we will develop a list of plan[ species which can
be utilized or evaluated at this site, and develop some ideas on a layout
or a scheme for test plots. We will then meet with company people to
review this plan and develop final project outline for the test plots.
0
