- 3-
f. Has augmentation water been permanently attached
to land by covenant or other Iegal means?
g. ffas applicant received a change-in-use from Water
Court for mining use of irrigation or domestic water
rights?
2. Rights Owned by Others
a. How many wells yield water from the geologic units and
alluvium which is affected by mining?
b. Wi11 pumping water from the mine affect well yields
and surface water supplies?
c. [dill relocated ditches be lined to prevent water _.
losses due to mining?
d. WiIl.~storage and sediment ponds used for water storage
be lined?
e, will water stored in and evaporated from sediment
ponds and processing ponds affect any senior water
rights?
f. h7i11 reclamation projects requiring the use of irri-
gation or the planting of phreatophytes injure any
senior water rights?
g. Will the mine deplete water from surface streams?
If so, how much and will this injure any senior water
rights?
c) After addressing the above items, Snowmass should indicate the
amount, source of, and location of water being put back into the natural
hydrologic system, 5o that a 'mass balance' of water intercepted, consumed,
stored, evaporated and replaced can be developed. For example, X-amount
of water is being pumped from Mine No. 1 per month, Y-amount of this water
is consumed, Z-amount is stored in ponds and/or evaporated, and the remaining
w-amount will be replaced to North Thompson Creek. Irrigation water return
flow could also be considered.
d) Items a, b, and c could be handled by itemizing the information.
For example:
I. Mine No. 1
A. Water intercepted
B. Authorization for X-amount consumption - Permit No.
C. Consumption
1, domestic
2, dust suppression
etc.
D. Permanent storage in pond X
E. Amount discharged to location
e) Surface water runoff contained by ponds should also be considered.
The maximum amount of water permanently stored in an containment structure,
including sediment ponds, can only be 2 acre-feet unless storage or water
rights have been obtained. Snowmass should List all containment structures
associated with the mine and Ioadout and report the permanent storage
capacity of those structures (sediment storage volume must be included).
