Dear Sir or Madam:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118,
Paragraph 3 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on September 22, 2006, an application for a permit to conduct coal mining
operations at the Northfield Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. Atl review and comment periods as
provided in the Colomdo Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules and Regulations of the Colomdo Mined Land
Reclamation Board for Coal Mining initiate from this date of filing.
The applicant Northfield Partners, LLC, proposes to conduct underground coal mining operations on land located
approximately 3 miles south of Canon City. The permit area is further described as follows: Portions of Sections 11, 12, 13,
14, 22, 23, 24, Township 19 South, Range 70 West. These tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of
Canon City,
Areas to be affected by proposed surface and underground operations are encompassed by the proposed Northfield permit
area located in south central Colorado in Fremont County. The Northfield permit azea is located approximately three miles
south of the incorporated Canon City. A limited area for mine support facilities and portals, located within the permit area,
will be constructed on the north side of Chandler Creek. The proposed mine access and haul road leading to the facilities
area will intersect the right-of--way of County Road 79 a distance of 0.52 miles east of the junction of County Road 79 and
County Road I IA.
The mine permit area contains approximately 1,430 acres, bounded on the west by County Road 77 and its northern limit
approaches the south edge of the town of Brookside. Chandler Creek and County Road 79 bisect the permit area from
southwest to northeast. The eastern permit boundary crosses County Road 79 approximately 250 fee[ east of the entrance to
the aforementioned mine access road.
