i
• •
(~2)
I
i ~
(pages 48-52) of the mining plan. This section of the Mine Ilan
(page 55) also points out that a stream f,uage has beenii.nsta~iled
in Stevens Gulch near the temporary coal storage area. An additional
guage will be installed in the Lowest sediment dam spil.l~aay
I
to monitor for overflows. (See Leaf letter of February ~9, 1978 -
Appendix V).
In order to insure that CWI complies with the recently
published interim underground mining regulations, Dr. G~icksn
was asked to thoroughly review our program. His recommendations
were used to design a program which satisfies Section 7;17.17'(6)
of the OSM regulations.
Surface water pollution could possibly eminate from 3 sources
on the CWI property. These sources are the mining areal, they
temporary coal storage area and the coal loadout area. ,It will
i
be necessary to establish the average of daily values fbr 30j
consecutive days for 4 parameters in the North Fork of the G~nnison
River as required by section 717.17 (a} and (b) (1} (ii) of 'the OSM
I
regulations. Downstream and upstream monitoring in the'North Fork
of the Gunnision River will be done weekly. The water quality analysis
presented in the mine plan suggests that impacts on water quality
I
from mining activities in Stevens Gulch and in the train loa~dout area
will have a negligible impact on the river. Periodic monitoiring will
be conducted in Stevens Gulch whenever the intermittant strejam in
this gulch is flowing.
I
W ~~,~ cliV~~ I ~:~t~.I~ )~
