Road 79 and 11-A; Fremont County <br />Dear Mr. Gorham: <br />My husband, John A. Ravensberg, and I own a home built on Lot 13-Chandler Heights, Fremont County....better <br />known as 4500 Auckland Avenue; Williamsburg, CO.... <br />Our home is to the south/southwest of the proposed coal mine to be developed by Northfield Mine Project <br />Northfield Partners, LLC of Littleton, Colorado. <br />The proposed mine is to be located near County Road 79 and County Road 11-A and will encompass approx. <br />1430 acres bounded by County Road 77, the town of Brookside, County Road 79 and Chandler Creek. <br />Can you please provide us with a map to show where our parcel of land falls in the area of the proposed mine? <br />The book on file with Fremont County provides a map but it is too large to duplicate.... <br />We are HIGHLY OPPOSED to this mine due to several reasons. <br />1. Our well sits approx. 500 feet down and we are concerned that the proposed mine will pull groundwater <br />intended for our use. <br />2. The land surrounding us, I believe, is BLM land with open range. The wildlife that inhabits this area will be <br />greatly affected by the pollution caused by such a mine. <br />3. The values of the homes in the surrounding area could be affected. Who would want to live near a coal mine? <br />4. Why do we need another mine so near a residential community? There are already 10 coal mines covering <br />86,000 acres producing 30 million tons of coal. <br />5. There was a mine near Coal Creek atone time which has been closed down. The mess that was left has not <br />yet been dealt with.... <br />6. What will be the extent of lead-laden dust from roads on which mine wastes are left? Who will monitor the <br />lead exposure as well as other toxins that are released into the air and the land as a result of this mining <br />operation? <br />7. It appears that the mine waste will be dumped near Chandler Creek....this past July and August was our <br />wettest in a number of years and that Creek carried much of the water that flowed off of this mountain. Should <br />the mining waste be dumped near that water.....it would contaminate everything downstream, kill wildlife that uses <br />that as a source of water, damage the groundwater that moves through the area into domestic wells, OR, even <br />worse.....it could cause a backup if the Creek is used and damage would occur to the lands upstream... <br />We are HIGHLY opposed to this operation and wish to be kept informed of a Public Hearing. <br />Please advise as soon as possible. <br />11 /7/2006 <br />
