Box 550
Price, Utah 84501
Re: Reclamation of Coal [daste Piles in the Jerome Park Area of Pitkin
and Garfield Counties
Dear Mr. Buchanan:
It has recently come to my attention that your work to reclaim old coal refuse
piles located in Aspen gulch, Spring gulch, and Marrion gulch has been completed.
This is evident by your total abandonment of the sites as of December 5, 1980.
As you stated in your letter to Mr. Todd A. Gibson of the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Division dated August 26, 1980, your plans to prevent degradation
of the land included resloping the area to it's original contour and seeding
as the work was completed.
While it is recognized that severe winter storm conditions would possibly have
prevented this clean up work from being done, this has not been the case. The
weather in this area, has been quite warm and dry.
Our concern is that valuable time has been wasted due [o your delay in starting
the regrading and clean up work. We are also concerned over the amount of trash
and screen reject material that has been left in the previous vicinity of your
screening plant.
We are hereby requesting that you begin the following described work immediately:
1 - Remove and dispose of all trash and debris left in your previous
work areas.
2 - Remove the screen reject material from the site or replace it at
the location of the old coal waste piles and cover it with soil.
d I
