I=E~MdT CO-031-81
Date 9-16-83
Ref. Page(s) in permit
Ref. Map 7
Stipulation No. 1
FLOW MEASUREMENTS AND WATER SAMPLES MUST BE TAKEN TWICE A
YEAR FROM THE THREE SITES IDENTIFIED ON MAP 5 OF THIS
DOCUMENT. THE TIMES OF FLOW MEASUREMENT MUST BE ONCE DURING
SPRING SNOWMELT AND ONCE DURING A STORM EVENT. THE SAME
PARAMETERS FOR ANALYSIS SHOULD BE USED AS WERE USED FROM THE
SOAP REPORT.
Reply
The three sites (001,002,003) indicated on the attached map
(Figure 1.1) were. located in the field during an August 22-23
field visit. Cross sections and channel slopes were measured so
that a stage discharge curve could be developed to estimate flow
values from depth of flow measurements. (Figures 1.2 - 1.4) A
bottle sampler was installed at each of the three sites and
sample bottles, with preservatives, were issued to the mine
operator.
A sample from Pond 'K' was taken on 23 August, 1983. No
discharge from the pond was occurring, despite afternoon
rainshowers on the two previous days. As discussed with Ms. Sue
Mowry, the CMLRD representative on the site, the results of the
sample will provide some baseline data and would be preferable to
no data at all. Runoff events are infrequent at this site and
there is no certainty that a flow event would occur prior to the
time at which the operators are ready to begin mining. The
results of this sample are attached. (Exhibit 1.1).
The sample from spring snowmelt has not been obtained. This
will be collected in the spring and submitted.
