Box 783
Trinidad, Colorado 81082
Dear Vance:
This is in xesponse to several items we discussed last Thursday while I
was at the mine site.
With regard to water monitoring, Trinidad Basin should begin a monitoring
program which ihcludes the following:
Cround Water
On a monthly basis, TBM should check and record water levels, pH, conductivity,
and temperature in the ground water wells in the Del Agua Canyon.
On a quarterly basis, TBM should have a water quality analysis performed for
the parameters required on the attached Baseline Water Quality Monitoring
sheet. Samples need not be taken from all wells, but a sample should be
taken from one well as far above the mine site as possible, one well irtm~ediately
adjacent to where mine discharge occurs, and one well as far downstream from
the mine as possible.
Surface Water
Whenever a sedimentation pond discharges into the environment uncontrolled
by other sedimentation facilities, TBM should have the discharge analyzed for
the parameters required in the NPDES permit issued to TBh1,
Del Agua Canyon flow should be sampled twice per year (if possible), once
during snowmelt and once during a storm event. A chemical analysis should
be performed per Baseline Water Monitoring requirements.
Results from both ground and surface water sampling and analysis should be
forwarded to the Division.
