Gep!. of Natural Resa~rces <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br />RE: Permit 79-177, Foidel Creek Mine, Stipulation No. ,1 <br />Dear Sandy: <br />This letter is in response to Stipulation No. 1 of the permit approval far <br />the Foidel Creek Mine. The stipulation reads as follows: <br />"To verify the applicant's predictions of stream depletions in the <br />area of the Wadge coal-overburden aquifer discharge area on Fish <br />Creek, the applicant shall install and monitor a set of nested <br />piezometers completed in the alluvium of Fish Creek overlying the sub- <br />crop of the Wadge coal-overburden aquifer. A plan shall be submitted <br />within 30 days and the wells shall be installed within 120 days of <br />issuance of this permit. The wells shall be monitored monthly for <br />water levels and the results of monitoring submitted quarterly to the <br />Division." <br />Twentymile Coal Company has set out a plan to install and monitor a set of <br />alluvial monitor wells in the Fish Creek floodplain. The monitor well system <br />includes a nest of six wells which are completed in the Fish Creek alluvium <br />overlying a fault zone. This highly fractured fault <br />eastern portion of the Twentymi.le park basin, and is <br />far the 'dodge coal-overburden aquifer.
