• No bald eagle nests, nor any federally-listed threatened or endangered species or critical habitats,
nor any animals listed as threatened or endangered by the state of Colorado were identified in the
permit area. Construction and operation of the project will not result in the disturbance of any of
these species. In the future, if any of these species are found to consistently occupy the permit
area, LCC will promptly report the presence of these species to the CDOW and to the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service.
The proposed 69kV power line to the portal facilities will be designed and constructed to minimi7r
collisions and electrocutions of raptors, waterfowl, and other wildlife species. All design and
construction will be conducted in accordance with the criteria described in Suggested Practices for
Raptor Protection on Power Lines, the State of the Art in 1981 (APLIC 1996). Figure 2.05.6-1a
shows an example of a proposed pole.
LCC will monitor raptor nests within the permit area during the life of the mine. This annual
monitoring will consist of documenting locations of known nests, identifying new nests, and
documenting nesting activity. In addition, any nests occurring within azeas of disturbance shall be
identified and resource management agencies contacted prior to activities neaz the nest. The raptor
survey will be conducted during the spring of the yeaz (April or May). Monitoring results will be
provided by January 31 ofeach year in a report to the CDMG and then forwarded to the CDOW for
their review.
• Proposed locations and operation of haul roads will impact wildlife species. The proposed new
roads in the permit area may create a barrier to wildlife. The increased human activity including
haul trucks, and service vehicles may prevent wildlife from crossing Lorencito Canyon to access

PERMIT.rer\luly l5. 199] 2.05-82a (revised 7/15/97)
