s

• •
Added 5-21-82
The second type of light-use road is the pit road. Pit roads will
be. constructed to provide access into and around the working pit. They
will be constructed as they become necessary and will be reclaimed
shortly after they are no longer needed.
All the light-use roads on the Bourg property have been or will be
constructed using the best technology available to minimize the impacts
on fish, wildlife, and related environmental values. They will be
located on stable, gently rolling slopes, out of stream channels, and
away from any wet, steep or unstable areas.
Vegetation and topsoil were removed from an area no greater than one
lane wide prior to construction of light-use roads. These roads were
field designed according to Mined Land Reclamation criteria. Maximum
grade is less than 1v:lOh (10%) and the roads meander to follow natural
variation in topography and vegetation.
Flowing drainages shall not be forded and natural channel drainage
ways shall not be altered by construction and use of any of the pit roads.
The perimeter road crosses Mann Draw at two points on the Bourg property.
Since this section of road is seldom used, and Mann Draw will not be
forded while it is flowing, the erosion effects of these crossings shall
be negligible. The perimeter road also crosses one culvert, which is adequate
to handle outflow from sediment pond B. Any sedimentation that occurs
as a result of construction and use of light-use roads will be handled
by the sediment control ponds an the Bourg property.
All light-use. roads will be surfaced using materials available on-site.
No toxic- or acid-forming materials shall be used to surface these roads.
Maintenance of light-use roads will be adequate to ensure that erosion
will be minimized and the perimeter road will not be used during heavy
rainfall or extreme snowmelt conditions where erosion might be significant.
Roads shall be closed to all vehicular traffic when they are no
longer requried for operations, reclamation, or monitoring purposes.
They will then be regraded to conform to the natural surroundings and
topsoiled and reseeded in the same manner as other disturbed areas on
the Bourg site.
D-9(b)
