U
- 3 -
Site SRT33
Location: SW 1/4, NW 1/4, Section 31, TSN, F.86W

Description: SRT33 is an open lithic site consisting of a few scattered
flakes located on the low ridge north of Foidel Creek, approximately 160 m
west of SRT32. The site faces south towards Foidel Creek, 60 m away.
Gegetation on the site includes sagebrush, native grasses, rabbitbrush, and
low herbaceous 6hrubs. The area covered b}' the site is unknown due to
bulldozing on the southern end. No permanent features were visible, nor were
there concentrations of flakes.
Evaluation: The site has been disturbed by bulldozer operations resulting
from the construction of a county road. No diagnostics artifacts were
recovered which could be used [o determine cultural affiliation or temporal
span, therefore the site will not yield information important to the
understanding of prehistory of this area. OSM believes the site is not
eligible for Inclusion in the 1ational Register of Historic. Places.
Site'SRT34
Location: SG; 1/4 N1J 114, Section 31, TSN, R86W
Description: The site has been disturbed by bulldozer operations resulting
from the construction of a county road. No diagnostics artifacts were
recovered which could be used to determine cultural affiliation or temporal
span, therefore, the site will not yield information important [he
understanding of prehistory. The Office of Surface Alining believes that the
site is no[ eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic
Places.
Site SRT35 (EF-001)
Location: SW 1/4 NE 1/4, Section 7, T4N, R86W
Description: LOPA recorded the James Rossi Ranch as an historic site
consisting of three structures built of milled lumber, a well, and a trash
dump. The delapida[ed structures consisted of a dwelling, barn, and chicken
coop. This site appeared to have been abandoned within the last 30 years.
Evaluation: Although this site was recorded by ELM, no evaluation of
significance was made since it was located off of the proposed lease tract on
private lands and would not have been directl}• affected by coal leasing.
Subsequent to leasing, [he site was destroyed by topsoil removal.
Three other historic sites were recorded by Athern and are described in the
BLM Environmental Assessment Report, dated January 18, 1979. These sites are
SRT111 (EF-002), the remains of [he dry-laid rock foundation; SRT112 (EF-003),
an isolated log barn; and SRT115 (EF-006}, a small log cabin in ruins. BLM
had evaluated site EF-006 as not eligible for inclusion in the National
Register. Subsequently, on this authority, the site was destroyed by
construction activities related [o [he mine operations.
