Dept. of i~latural Reso~~~~e: (303) 874-7561
ine: (303)856-6402
February 16, 1984
Mr. Dan Mathews
Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman Street, Room 423
Denver, CO. 80203-2273
Dear Dan:
Over the past month, additional information has been requested
for the Grand Mesa Coal Company permit application from Mined Land
Reclamation. I am writing this letter to define what we understand
as items requiring a further response. If this list of items is
incomplete or incorrect, please advise. Otherwise, we will set
March 9, 1984 as a target date to have submitted to you the supple-
mental information.
Item I. We have the Delta County public file copy available for
review in our Delta office. You inquired as to why we are using our
own office, rather than the courthouse for the public filing location.
Our understanding was that the Delta County Courthouse will keep
copies available to the public for only thirty days, and then will
have them either picked up or destroyed. Since this time frame is
obviously not acceptable to MLR, we offered to create a public file
copy shelf in our own office. This procedure had been accepted for
another mine operation, and we assume that it is the proper way to
handle the public file copy of our permit application.
Item II. You advised us that Rad Orell at the Denver Office of
Surface Mining location would be the new contact on Grand "Qesa Coal
Company permit matters. We will use Mr. Orell as the contact, effec-
tive today.
Item III. It is our understanding that you are not satisfied
with the description of the Grand Mesa Coal Company loadout as it
presently exists in the application. We will eliminate your concern
by providing a meet and bounds description of the entire loadout.
Item IV. You commented that the legal description of the permit
area is now out of date. We will revise it and provide you with the
updated legal description for the permit area, including the boundary
for five years of mining, the adjacent area included due to angle of
draw, and the Delta loadout site.
