Page five
Letter to Mr. Fred R. Banta
Re: Permit 76-16/Pit 3 Surety Release
September 17, 1980
Shrubs
Mountain Big Sagebrush
Antelope Bitterbrush
Lanceleaf Rabbitbrush
Saskatoon Serviceberry
Black Chokecherry
TOTAL
Immediately following
furrowed to control erosion and
sion until the vegetation became
0.025
0.25
0.25
0.25
0.25
1.025 lbs./acre
11.6 lbs./acre
seeding the site was contour
to temporarily control ero-
established.
Success of Reclamation Efforts
In order to quantify these reclamation efforts data
was collected in August of 1980 to determine plant cover and
productivity. Although not required by the reclamation stan-
dards of 1976 and 1977 the 1980 reclamation data on plant cover
and production were compared to an undisturbed sagebrush re-
ference area. The big sagebrush reference area was used for
comparison because almost all of the premine vegetative com-
munities on the tracts requested for bond release were dominated
by this type. Sampling in 1980 was done using the method-
ologies approved by CMLRD in our Permit 79-177. Transects
were taken in each reclaimed area along a 50 meter tape.
Cover was sampled using a 10 point frame and production was
taken by clipping all plants growing with a one quarter meter
quadrat.
Results of these vegetation studies are contained
in the following table. Please note that herbaceous cover
and productivity have been used as measurements of success
as stipulated by your current regulations.
