F.Manor~ o~~nsiori
Cclo. OeGt. of iJatural Resources
The Division has reviewed your October 17, 1983 letter regarding the need for
a water quality discharge permit for the No. 3 mine detention pit and the
Middle Creek detention pond.
Since neither area is being actively reclaimed and since one area above the
No. 3 mine detention pit will be mined in the future, and the other area
contains an overburden stockpile which has it's runoff contained in a
sedimentation pond, both ponds must be permitted to allow a legal discharge of
effluent.
The Division has recently deactivated several discharge points at this mine.
At that time, the Divisiion was under the impression that reclamation had
begun and that no further mining or disturbance of these areas would occur.
If mining or other disturbance will occur and MLRD is requiring that a pond be
built, t t ese ponds are ,subject to. water quality regulations and need to
'bex~permitted. , '
If you have any questions concerning this letter do not hesitate to contact me
at the Department of Health.
Sincerely,
~~,~ll~' l~ S ~~~.
Donald H.
