Most of the gullies on the site have been caused by water breaching either an irrigation ditch or a diversion ditch. All ditches on the site are scheduled for maintenance this July. The maintenance operations are to be performed so that all material cleaned out of the ditch will be placed on the downhill side to act as a berm. Also, where the breach is located at a bend in the ditch, the area will be armored with rock from the surrounding site. Existing gullies in the topsoiled areas of Mine 3 will be corrected by August 15, 1984. The existing gullies will be evaluated to determine if they need to be filled in or whether gully plugs could be utilized to begin reparation of the sites. Additionally, diversion ditches will be placed above the Homestead ditch to help divert water across the slopes and away from ditch areas succeptible to breaching. Water spreading ditches will also be utilized below the Homestead ditch in the event a breach occurs. The additional diversion ditch work will be conducted after the topsoiling activities scheduled for the Fall of 1984 are completed. The CYCC will continue to maintain all diversion and irrigation ditches for sediment control on the Mine 3 area. The plan outlined above will alleviate the erosional problems on the site, with all operations to be completed by the Fall of 1984.
