M
i 1
-3-
In order to accurately describe the proposed change in. the pond into a
permanent impoundment, the description on Page 4.05-7 and 4-16 should
be revised as appropriate.
On Page 4.05-3 of the application, the statement is made that no acid
mine drainage of pH equal to or less than 6.0 is expected. Recent
field observations have indicated a seep is evident east of the
proposed portal area on the cut bank of the access road. Acidic water
and yellowboy staining (ferric hydroxide) have been observed flowing
down the roadside ditch.
This occurrence is more than likely only seasonal and has yet to be
defined. Rule 4.05.2(9) defines the requirements for acid mine
drainage treatment. If flow is small and infreouent, a manual system
of neutralization can be approved. A plan for treatment of this acid
drainage will need to be prepared and submitted to the Division prior
to permit approval. Should any assistance be requested on the matter,
the applicant is encouraged to contact the Division prior to plan
submittal.
sr5
9608E
