•
12. The States of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming and the Fish. and Wildlife
Service developed interim procedures for stocking nonnative fish in lakes
and reservoirs in the Upper Colorado River Basin. The procedures, which
currently are being evaluated, will ensure that all stocking of nonnative
fish in the Upper Colorado River Basin is consistent with recovery of
endangered fish.
13. Genetics Management Guidelines and the Coordinated Hatchery Facility Plan
were finalized. The Genetics Management Guidelines document is a
conceptual document that provides the rationale, genetics concepts, and
genetic risks to be considered in genetics management planning and
implementation. The Coordinated Hatchery Facility Plan defines
facilities required to meet propagation needs, identifies fish needs that
can be met by existing facilities, discusses the need for additional
facilities or new construction, and estimates costs for construction and
operation of these facilities.
14. A project was initiated to identify interim management objectives for the
endangered fish. This project will develop biologically based parameters
and a modeling approach for describing. the status and recovery goals of
the endangered fishes in the Upper Colorado River Basin.
15. A study of distribution and movements of Colorado squawfish and their
seasonal habitat use in the White River was completed. Information from
this study will be used to develop a work plan for instream flow studies
on the White River.
16. A summary report describing the results of the first 7 years of the
Interagency Standardized Monltortng Program was produced.
17. An initiative was begun to provide long-term funding for the Recovery
Program.
18. The Fish and Wildlife Service finalized the designation of critical
habitat for the endangered fishes on March 20, 1994. The Recovery
.Program modified the Recovery Action Plan to address this critical
habitat designation.
