• ~ IIIlllllll111111111 <br />Storm King Mines <br />Jeff Pecka <br />06/29/83 <br />DESCRIPTION: Small, perfectly rectilinear log cabin. Logs laid alternate, <br />squared but not notched, bark remaining, ends unfinished. Roof beams (2) <br />span structure N-S. Sub-roof consists of unpeeled juniper logs with unfi- <br />nished ends (10 x 14cm 0). No shingles evident, peaked roof on very flat <br />slope (10%). <br />BUILDING MATERIALS: Hand felled logs Juni erus sp., Pinus sp.,) and sawn <br />pine.. Limited sandstone foundation (irregular corrugated iron, and cedar <br />shingle shim. Tamped earth floor. Foundation log = 30cm, first course <br />log = 37cm, common log= 16cm, small log = lOcm, <br />DATES OF CONSTRUCTION: Unknown, area settled 1890+. <br />SPECIAL FEATURES: Sawn sill (logs) 0.9m wide. Doorway framed with lcm x <br />1 cm x 62cm pine board set plumb with manufactured cedar shingle shim, 2 <br />iron hinges (with non-renewable hinge-pins) mounted with nails. This door- <br />way probably framed much after original construction date. Remnants of 2cm <br />x 12cm pine boards set as vertical remain attached to logs. Doorway is <br />1.47m tall. Roof boards (?) 2cm x 30cm x 5.2m. Common pine on ground next <br />to cabin. No tarpaper, plaster or cardboard evident. No privy structure <br />evident nearby. <br />RELATIONSHIP TO SURROUNDINGS: Grassy site, with an improved pasture <br />near y. inyon ~un~per overstory.• <br /> <br />
