Response
• The typographical error on revised page 2.05-120 has been corrected to read "1902-1925".
~~ Rule 2.03
12. Please state whether all tests, analyses and surveys, carried out pursuant to the Boazd's
Regulations, were performed or certified by qualified persons (Section 2.03.3(2)). If certain
tests, analyses or surveys were not performed or certified by qualified persons, please
describe those tests, etc., and discuss why these where not performed or certified by qualified
persons.
s n
Page 2.03-1 has been revised to indicate that all tests, analyses and surveys, carried out
pursuant to the Boazd"s Regulations, were performed or certified by qualified persons.
13. Please state whether all water quality sampling and laboratory analyses were conducted in
accordance with either the current edition of "Standazd Methods for the Examination of
Water and Wastewater" or the methodology in 40 CFR 136 and 434 (Section 2.03.3(4)). If
certain water quality sampling and laboratory analyses were not conducted in accordance
with these methods, please describe that sampling and analysis, and discuss why they were
• not conducted according to these methodologies.
Response
All analytical chemistry was conducted in accordance with the methodology specifically
identified in 40 CFR 136 with four subtle exceptions: lithium, thiocyanate, selenium and
the total metals digestion. Methods were called out in Exhibits 7 and 8 in Tables GW-4
and SW-2. A statement to this effect has been added to page 8 of Exhibit 7 and page 7 of
Exhibit 8.
Analytical procedures for lithium aze not specified in 40 CFR 136 or 434, and the
laboratory utilized EPA 200.7, the typical ICP metals determination for this analysis,
rather than the method identified in "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and
Wastewater". EPA 200.7 is the 40 CFR method approved for most metals. Lithium
concentrations were low in the ground water wells and further analyses of this parameter
are not proposed.
Thiocyanate is not specifically called out by 40 CFR 136, but is generated as a by-product
of the free cyanide analysis. EPA 335.3 for cyanide is one of the approved 40 CFR
methods.
• Selenium was analyzed using the automated technique of the gaseous hydride determination
from "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater".
